If it is possible for us to move over the news of India killing 38 terrorists and shutting up Pakistan for some time then on the other end of the globe continues a fight that “decides the fate of the world”.
Yes, it is the Presidential elections in the United States that are taking the world by storm.
On Monday was held the first Presidential debate where Hilary scored slightly more than the Republican candidate but unfortunately there is one another candidate who stands in the race with Clinton and Trump.
Who is Gary Johnson?
Gary Johnson was a successful business man, a member of the Republican Party and served as the Governor of New Mexico from 1995-2003.
He is greatly applauded for the tax policies he implemented during his stint as the Governor. He was one of the first politicians to campaign for decriminalization of Marijuana.
Johnson was the Presidential candidate from the Libertarian Party in 2012 and again in 2016.
He is a good leader known for his firm stand against militarization and War On Drugs.
Gary had no reason to be a laughing stock not until he decided to reveal to the world that he did not know what ‘Aleppo’ was.
Johnson defended himself saying that ‘Aleppo’ sounded like an acronym and he did not think it was related to the Syrian War.
To save his grace he even added that no one cares more about Syrians than him.
Aleppo Version 2.0
Johnson being a smart man learnt from his mistake and therefore repeated the same mistake when during a quiz show ‘hardball’ he was asked who is the one foreign leader he respected was.
His presidential running mate, former Massachusetts Governor William Weld, suggested Shimon Peres, the former Israeli president who recently died while Johnson SIGHED!
“The former President of Mexico,” he finally uttered. On being asked the name of the President, I’m having a brain fart,” was Johnson’s reply.
Now we know US thinks of himself as the big daddy and cares least about international relations you just bomb away nations you don’t like but what Mr. Johnson showcased again is a step ahead of Trump and to think this man might become President of a country.
But in hindsight, Gary Johnson has given a reason to rejoice because even USA has a Rahul Gandhi. Dumb politicians Syndrome is not something only our country suffers from, it’s everywhere. I say ‘suffer’ because we may laugh at them, troll and make fun but imagine if even one of these politicians ascended the throne it would be havoc!
It is days like these that make you wonder if politics is seen as a profession then maybe it is time this profession had set criteria, qualification needed and eligibility.
